Phase Change Composites for concurrent thermal management & EMI shielding of magnetic devices operating at high frequency platformsThe Internet of Things paradigm necessitates billions of electronic devices to connect and exchange data with other devices and systems over the internet. This complex congested electromagnetic environment requires the development of ultra-efficient devices and material systems that can concurrently control both thermal and electromagnetic radiation. Both materials research, as well as computational efforts, can accelerate this enormous and vital challenge. Against

this backdrop, this project is centered on a novel multifunctional platforms comprising of a thermally conductive foam modified by the inclusion of an organic phase change material, thereby creating a light-weight, conformal multiphase composite system that can simultaneously provide high-frequency electromagnetic radiation shielding and passive thermal management for rf devices that operate in a wide frequency range spanning the ultra-high frequency (UHF), L-, S-, and X-band (780 MHz to 12.4 GHz).
